What is karigami? From the scene can be guessed this art comes from japan. The art of paper folding is well known. Kirigami may not be as popular as origami in this paper folding art.

The main difference is that in origami we fold paper to make artwork. In Japan itself the word kirigami has existed since time immemorial.

The word kirigami comes from the word kiru which means cut and gami which means ketas. So kirigami means the art of cutting paper. Tools and materials desired are scissors, cuter, glue and of course paper.

The basic form of kirigami

The basic form of kirigami is a circular 2-dimensional round. Circular round ornament is obtained with fold symmetry. For beginners are usually taught how to cut 4 folds, 6 folds or 8 folds.

To make a 4-fold cut, the paper is folded 2 simultively, folded 2 simultively, then folded 3 with the same folding angle.

For those already mehirs with round circular embellishments, can be upgraded with a square circular shape (angled 2.3,4 onwards).
